The big day of turning eleven.

Max had a wonderful birthday. He went and saw the new movie, "Mars Needs Moms" He loved it as he sat and ate his popcorn. After the movie he went to Cripy cremes and got a box of donuts. The lady at the check out asked him how he felt about being eleven. He respondsed. "Oh... I feel like an adult now."

“Mom I think I’m worth 69 dollars.”

Max walked down the aisle slowly and stopped at the Ninjagq Lego’s section. He pointed to each item he liked while reading off the prices. He tapped his finger against his chin while he added out loud the prices. Then he looked up at me with a confident smile and hopeful eyes. “Mom I think I’m worth 69 dollars.” As we walked away he reminded me his birthday was March 18th.

I see growth in Max, but also new challenges coming his way.

Had a two hour IEP for Max and it went splendidly. The only concern is the school psychologist wants him to take the AIMS test. The fact Max has never taken the AIMS is triggering his anxiety level to increase. The past two days he’s had two melt downs in class and it’s not the norm for him.

I’m deeply concerned of how he will cope with the pressure of solving a fifth grade math problem when he functions at second grade math level. I picture him at his desk, struggling with his first grade level, while trying to comprehend a fifth grade vocabulary word. Life seems unjust and deceitful at times.

With each passing day…I see growth in Max, but also new challenges coming his way.
